evaninformal.jpgA user-advocate, accidental activist, and occasional analyst.

With more than 23 years in the CAD industry, I'm considered an old-timer by some.  I guess that's just the nature of the beast.  This is a young industry.

I suppose what I do have is perspective.  Over time, I've been on most every side of things -- as a user, a writer, a consultant, an analyst, and a vendor.  Up until recently, my business was running the Open Design Alliance, a non-profit consortium that served software developers and users.  I am keenly interested in a number of subjects that affect the CAD industry.

The one thing that is common to each of my journals is that I have a very user-centric point of view.  My background is as a design engineer.  I originally got involved with CAD because I was looking for tools to make the process of design easier.  And though, on a day to day basis, I'm not doing design work anymore, there are millions of people in the world who are.  Ultimately, they are the people who matter most to me.  Yea, it sounds corny.  But it's true.

I hope you find this web site useful.  I think you'll discover that, if I err, I err on the side of candor -- which at least tends to keep things interesting.

If you'd like to write directly to me, my email address is evan@yares.com.
