Siemens buying UGS?

I just got an IM from Brad Holtz, the president of Cyon Research, with the heads-up that Siemens appears to be close to buying UGS.

Now this is interesting!

Most folks I know who had an opinion on this sort of thing thought it was a foregone conclusion that UGS would do an IPO.  So, an acquisition -- by a non-software company -- is pretty unexpected.  At least to me.

But, let's put this in context:  Siemens is an engineering-oriented company.  They make a lot of complex products.  UGS happens to make software that's especially good at helping make complex products.  Seems like a synergy.

I'm betting that Brad will be offering some good analysis on this, in fairly short order.
