Five Things You Didn’t Know About Me
Ever heard the term "meme?" The American Heritage Dictionary defines it as "A unit of cultural information, such as a cultural practice or idea, that is transmitted verbally or by repeated action from one mind to another."
The most recent blog meme is a game of tag. Rachael Dalton Taggart has tagged me, so I get to tell you Five Things You Didn’t Know About Me:
- I’ve played guitar for most of my life. I don’t play well enough to be in a band, but I found that playing music has a way of touching parts of my mind that other things don’t. You’d be surprised at how many people in the CAD industry play guitar.
- I come from a family of artists—the kind for whom art has been a calling. It’s deeply colored my perception of the world. For me, science, engineering, art, and philosophy are all intertwined.
- I’ve always taken things apart to figure them out. My mother tells me that when I was about 4, I took her sewing machine apart, and then put it back together. It apparently worked. From there, I went to bicycles, motorcycles, cars, stereos, TVs, and eventually computers.
- My most recent areas of study and interest are sociology, and economics. It can be unexpectedly enlightening to learn the dynamics that drive people and organizations.
- The first time I ever saw AutoCAD was at Comdex (the computer dealer exposition) in 1982. I had to wait a few months to get my hands on it. Compared to some of my friends (guys like Patrick Hanratty, Mike Riddle, or Joel Orr), I feel like a neophyte in this industry.
