Is SaaS the Killer App for the CAD Industry?

brian_publicity.jpgBrian Seitz is an unprepossessing guy who happens to be brilliant.  He "gets" strategy, systems, and all the human factors that touch them, and has proven his chops in big-time projects.  Among other things, he reengineered both IBM and Samsung's marketing processes, and reengineered Microsoft's IT structure. (Along the way, he developed Rapid Economic Justification, and Enterprise Architecture Planning -- methodologies that many people proudly put on their resumes.)  Brian is not the guy out there on the speaking circuit, selling books.  He's the guy in the background, figuring out how to actually solve problems.

Brian recently wrote about Software as a Service:

As the Engineering and the Software industries have changed over time, the priorities of users and vendors have diverged.  The old industry model of doing business selling products may be becoming obsolete as a new model of selling service takes on momentum in other software industries.  Engineering SaaS maybe the next Killer App in Engineering Software as it will change the fundamental value proposition for businesses.  Both Engineering firms and Engineering Software providers should seriously look into this new model of business.
